Expert says we have the best health care in the world – if you have insurance

moroneThough the “health care crisis” in this country seems like a recent issue, in fact, the political debate over the American health care system is decades old. Brown University political science Professor James Morone is a leading authority on that political history. He was in Missoula recently to participate in the Mansfield conference on the future of health care in America. In this feature interview, Morone talks with News Director Sally Mauk about past fights over health care – and what he thinks the future holds.

Time magazine Washington Bureau Chief and Executive Editor Michael Duffy is in Missoula to speak at tonight’s annual Chamber of Commerce banquet. Duffy’s coverage of politics and national affairs for Time has earned him numerous awards, and he is a regular on the PBS program “Washington Week in Review”. In this feature interview, Duffy talks with News Director Sally Mauk about the 2012 election, and what to look for in President Obama’s second term. Duffy agrees with Obama’s campaign manager, Jim Messina, that the President won in part because his campaign had a better ground game and a better message than his opponent…

Sally Mauk talks with Iranian author and scholar Haleh Esfandiari

Haleh Esfandiari

Iranian-born Haleh Esfandiari fled her native country after the 1979 revolution. She is now Director of the Middle East Program for the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, D.C. In 2007,while visiting her mother in Iran, Esfandiari was arrested and imprisoned in solitary confinement. International pressure secured her release, and she has written a book about the experience, titled “My Prison, My Home: One Woman’s Story of Captivity in Iran”. Esfandiari is in Missoula to lecture, and took time to sit down in our studios with News Director Sally Mauk to talk about why she left Iran – and her hopes for its future….
