Wolverines tough, but feds say they’ll need help

The wolverine is one tough critter. It’s also facing some significant challenges. Experts say there are fewer than 300 left in the lower 48. After years worth of asking – and legal prodding on behalf of environmentalists – the federal government recently proposed listing the animal under the Endangered Species Act.
In tonight’s feature interview with Edward O’Brien, Western Environmental Law Center staff attorney, Shiloh Hernandez, explains why this proposed action is so critically important for the future of this remarkable animal. The Law Center has worked to eliminate recreation trapping of wolverines in Montana.
Hernandez says even though wolverines range in weight from between 15 to 30 pounds, they’re a respected and feared cold-climate predator and scavenger.
