Refueling in the Flathead: Ducks, Geese, and Swans Stop off on their Flight North

The sound of geese, swans, and ducks of all kinds are among the harbingers of spring. And Tuesday March 20th marks the first day of spring, despite the snow. For the past couple of weeks birders have been scouting along wetlands, farm fields, streams and sloughs counting the waterfowl stopping off in the Flathead during their migration back north. Katrin Frye reports the data being collected aims to paint a picture of the importance of the Flathead’s wetlands and farm lands to waterfowl.
