The new pine beetle era

Montanans continue dealing with a far-reaching outbreak of the mountain pine beetle. Large clusters of trees have fallen victim to the tiny bugs over the last few years–all across the Rocky Mountain West. The beetles are still spreading. But the places hit first are moving into a new phase of the epidemic. What used to be a question of how far the beetles would spread is shifting to a question of what to do with the dead trees left behind.
